Service Guidelines

Terms & Conditions of Service

Handi-Lift Transportation, LLC • Effective Date: October 2026 • Barron, Wisconsin

1. Nature of Transportation Services

Handi-Lift Transportation, LLC provides scheduled Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) for individuals requiring ambulatory, wheelchair, or specialized assistance to medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, and healthcare facilities. Important Notice: Handi-Lift is not an emergency ambulance service and does not provide emergency medical intervention. If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

2. Ride Requests & Advance Notice

To provide reliable routing and ensure specialized vehicle availability:

  • Standard Scheduling: Online ride requests and quote inquiries should be submitted at least 48 hours prior to scheduled appointment times during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM). Requests received outside office hours, on weekends, or on holidays are reviewed on the next business day.
  • Immediate Dispatch (Under 48 Hours): For transportation needed with less than 48 hours' notice, passengers or facility coordinators must contact dispatch directly by phone at (715) 822-5077 during office hours to check availability.
  • Confirmation Requirement: Submitting a form or quote request does not reserve a ride. Transportation is confirmed only after dispatch confirms the arrangements.

3. Quotes, Billing & Payment

  • Online quotes are estimates based on provided addresses, route distances, and stated mobility needs. Final billing may adjust for actual mileage, wait time, or additional assistance required.
  • We accept private pay payments and coordinate with contracted healthcare facilities and Medicaid/ForwardHealth transport managers where applicable.

4. Cancellations & No-Show Policy

Because specialized medical vehicle slots are reserved exclusively for scheduled riders, we request at least 2 hours advance notice for cancellations whenever possible. Timely cancellation frees drivers and accessible vehicles for other patients awaiting critical treatments such as dialysis or radiation therapy.

5. Vehicle Standards & Passenger Safety

In accordance with Wisconsin Specialized Medical Vehicle (SMV) regulations and Human Service Vehicle (HSV) State Patrol inspections:

  • All vehicles are equipped with permanently installed hydraulic ramps or lifts, four-point wheelchair tie-down systems, and occupant restraint lap/shoulder belts.
  • All passengers using wheelchairs must be secured with proper tie-downs and safety belts during transit.
  • Handi-Lift drivers are certified in CPR and First Aid, pass background checks, and follow strict safety guidelines.

6. Inclement Weather & Safe Access

During snowy or icy weather, passengers, caregivers, and facilities are responsible for preparing a safe, accessible path before the scheduled pickup:

  • Driveways: Must be plowed with enough clearance for our van to enter, maneuver, and exit safely. Drivers will not enter driveways that have not been adequately cleared or where conditions could cause the vehicle to become stuck.
  • Walkways & Ramps: Must be shoveled wide enough for a wheelchair and driver to pass safely. Ice must be treated with salt, sand, or another suitable traction material.
  • Driver Assistance Limits: Drivers will not push wheelchairs through snow or across unsafe, icy surfaces. Drivers do not shovel, remove ice, or manually lift passengers or wheelchairs over obstacles.

These requirements apply at both pickup and drop-off locations. Please arrange snow and ice removal in advance and call dispatch at (715) 822-5077 if safe access cannot be provided. If access is unsafe when the driver arrives, the driver will contact dispatch to determine whether a safe alternative is available; transportation may be delayed or canceled if safe access cannot be arranged. Severe weather and hazardous road conditions may also cause transportation delays or cancellations.

7. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Commitment

Handi-Lift is committed to full accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, religion, color, national origin, age, or gender in the provision of transportation services.
